There's a short video on my you tube channel. "k9trainergsd"

Check it out!

The pups were introduced to the rest of the house today.  They had a tremendous time chasing each other up and down the hall, into the bathroom (where most of them had a close encounter with a wall), and then skittering and sliding into the kitchen.  The played for almost an hour.

We're starting to see some dominance play already.  Ms Yellow seems to like to squabble frequently.  She usually comes out on the top end of things... until today.  She made the mistake of tackling Mr. Red while he was having a drink of water.  That didn't go over well at all!  Mr. Red had her on her back in about a half second flat!  Boy, was Ms. Yellow surprised!  Hopefully she will remember her lesson and not be quite as quick to flatten others.  We'll see I guess.

We had a few visitors over the weekend.  The pups took everything in stride.  Indy was blocking (putting herself between the visitors and the pups) once in awhile but it wasn't long before she felt all was well.

Indy has almost totally stopped nursing the pups now.  They all have those really sharp puppy teeth now.  I certainly can't blame her.  So that's were I come in to save the day.  Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy Starter.  4 times per day.  Between Indy and the pups, we're going through 24 cups of food per day.  It doesn't take long to go through a 30 pound bag.

I've tried to put up a few videos here but I'm just not having any luck.  I'm just going to put them up on You Tube and let you know when I do.  You can either search for Guardian Angel Shepherds or  go to my channel "k9trainergsd".  I'll try and get some up today.  It's not a promise as I have two sets of people coming to see the pups today.  But I will try.

A Private Conversation

A Loving Mom

I can't believe the pups are 4 weeks old today!  Where does the time go!  The pups are really starting to interact with each other and starting to recognize me.  The pea soup consistency food they were eating has now turned into soaked tidbits.  The pups have tiny teeth now but their jaws are not strong enough to crunch puppy food yet.  Between all of them, they are eating about 6 cups of food per day.  Indy, on the other hand, is eating in the neighbourhood of 16 cups of puppy food per day.  And that's not a typo.  One, six.  16 cups of puppy food per day.  That is approximately 6400 calories!  Insane!  I know!  And she hasn't gained a pound!  She is starting the weaning process though.  All those needle teeth can be too much to take.  I feed the pups 4 times per day.  8AM, 2PM, 8PM & 12AM.  By the time they go home, they can be cut down to 3 feedings per day.  They are eating Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy Starter.  The can continue on that until they are 4 months old.

The pup's got brand new collars today!

So much changes in such a short amount of time! The pups have gone from little blind, deaf sausages to puppies who motor around and voice their opinions! They've grown out of the whelping box and graduated to the x-pen. They've had their toe nails trimmed and their first "meal".

Take a look at the changes!

What a difference a few days can make!

There are some big changes happening with the puppies!  Their eyes and ears are starting to open.  It is a procedure that takes a few days so the pups can adjust to all the sights and sounds of their new world.  Things are really going to start happening fast now.  Their wobbly  legs are getting stronger and they are doing their best to explore their environment.  Soon it will be time to start adding small toys and gentle noise makers.

Indy is doing well.  She's such a good Mom.  She doesn't mind Diesel coming in for a visit now but still and definite NO-NO with the other females.  If this was a wild pack situation, she would be in her den and would protect it fiercely if someone arrived at the mouth of the tunnel.  As far as Indy is concerned, this room is her den and until the pups are more agile, nobody comes in! (Except Diesel)

Several people have inquired about coming to visit the litter.  For the protection of the pups, no one can come until they are three weeks old.  Even then, we must be very careful about not bringing in any diseases.  A whole litter can die if exposed before they have had a chance to build up their immune systems.

No point wasting time!  Feeding and eating all in one!
Look how big they are now!  They weigh approximately 3 pounds each.  Mr. Green is still the "moose".  I actually heard one of them barking this morning!

Well that's all for now.

OH!  And thank you to all who sent birthday wishes yesterday.  It helped make the day even more wonderful!
