I have since stopped and doing my best to manage her allergies. I also know that we vaccinate our pets what more that the recommended amounts, which is once ever 5-7 years. I did a lot of research into this lately.

My pets are healthier without their vaccines that with. He had his vet visits ...Don't forget Excalibur!
He had his vet visits 2 weeks almost to the day after his first 2 vaccines. Joint pain, fever. Ended up with both Panosteitis, and HOD (Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy). So he too was out of commission for a total of almost a month where we couldn't do any training with him.
The HOD has been known to show a correlation with vaccines. So we just did titer test for his last set, and he showed a high immunity to everything, so he's good to go. We'll titer test every year, which is what I want planning on after his puppy shots anyway, and only top off shots if needed. He also wasn't allowed to get his rabies shot until he's a year old, to hopefully prevent another flare.
The good news is, those things are only a problem while he's still growing like a weed! So at a year old when he gets his rabies, it likely won't be an issue because his growth will have slowed down considerably by then.

So my personal opinion based on my experience.... The initial vaccines are still important, after all you don't want Parvo running rampant.... Parvo puppies scream puppy mill, which you are NOT. But we do over vaccinate our dogs. We really only need the first 2 sets, and rabies. But the third booster is unnecessary. Just do titer testing after that, and re-immunize when needed.
I'm not sure you can titer at 8 weeks old or not, but that might be an option too. See what immunities they have already strong from mom, and just top up the ones that are low. So each pup gets a checkup and shots that are tailored to them and their specific needs. It's a thought.

-Julie FAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
